Bharti Walmart takes on Coke, Pepsi in India

BhartiWalmarteditedUS retail major Walmart’s Indian joint venture, Bharti Walmart, has launched a range of ready-to-drink fruit-based beverages under the international Great Value brand. The range includes fruit drinks, flavoured cola, jaljeera and milk and will directly compete with global beverage giants like Coca Cola and Pepsi in the lucrative market.

The 50-50 cash and carry JV between Bharti Enterprises and Walmart Stores said its beverages will be available in different flavours, including mango, lemon, apple, litchi, pineapple and guava.

PepsiCo and Coca Cola are the leading players in the beverage segment with a host of brands such as Pepsi, Coke, Fanta, Mirinda, Slice, Maaza, Tropicana and Minute Maid, among others.

Bharti Walmart has been selling grocery and homecare items, including flour, spices, noodles, tea, soup and floor cleaners, under its Great Value private label.

Its other private labels include George (western wear), Astitva (Indian wear for women), and Athletic Work (shoes).

At present, the company operates 17 Best Price Modern Wholesale stores in different parts of the country.

It is expected to open 12-15 new best price modern wholesale stores in India within this year.
